Nikon D3s, Nikkor 200-400, f5.6, 1/2000, iso 1250 [set up for birds in flight], hand held, subject at 30 meters. PP, used selective levels to reduce intensity of shadows, increased saturation of the eye, Selective Color Efex Pro4 tonal contrast, detail extractor and usm of wolf. The wolf was the highlight of my July 4th. I usually avoid the park during the summer rush; however, with family coming later in the month a recon trip was in order. Late in the afternoon, the wolf crossed the road 50-60 meters in front of the truck. Instead of trotting away, it posed for a few seconds. C & C appreciated.

Gary - always nice to get a close sighting of a YNP wolf. Nice detail, sharpness and the slight head turn adds to it. I find the highlights a bit bright. I think applying a luminosity mask at about 40% will give you a nice richness to the colors and also tone down the highlights a bit.

Rachel, thanks for the look and advise. You prompted me to learn about luminosity masks. To my eye, the repost with subdued highlights looks better.

After looking at repost, it still is a bit hot and desaturated. Back to the drawing board.

Gary - I hope you don't mind but I took a shot at a repost. I started with your op and applied a luminosity mask at 45% opacity and then I flattened the image and did a levels adjustment moving the midtone slider to the right to .92. Let me know what you think.

Very special portrait of a animal I only dream to see one day. It appears he posed just for you!! Like what Rachel has done in the repost. He's glowing in the light.

Hi Gary, nice to get this opportunity and good job on capturing it. I love the classic pose, a real bonus! I think all the reposts are heading in the right direction, and I would like to see what you and others will come up with for even further improvement. Congrats on this one!

Gary, how fortunate you were to see this - he looks like a show dog posing. I like the scattering of wildflowers also. The reposts look great to me. Nice capture
