    Last week this avocet mother watched over her two chicks as they searched for food in the shallow marsh. She chased away two stilts and a crow while I looked on. I believe these are very "tough" birds.

    She does seem to have a bit of an attitude. I like her pose, good balance of exposure on whites and blacks.

    The image seems a little flat, and I would recommend pulling down the middle of the curve just a bit to give it a bit more snap.

    Randy, thanks . . . implementing your curves suggestion did make an improvement in the image.

    Lovely subject, great head turn and nice environment. Glad the curves adjustment helped. I might also suggest that you place your avocet out of the center, more to the right of the frame. I would also consider adding a little canvas to the top if you have it.

    Nice image, and i bet the curves adjustment brought it up a notch. I do agree with Marina, off set a bit to the right and a bit on top wouldn't hurt.
