    Default Red Crossbill Close-Up

I went up to one of my favorite bird photography spots in the Sandia Mountains on July 4th. We had a good variety of species, but good photos were few and far between. I was pleased to get a nice image of a Red Crossbill, a bird that I've gotten only a handfull of decent frames of over the years.

Hi Doug, great view of their bill, and I really like the varied colours on this species. Your fill flash has worked out well, very subtle, and you got him against a nice smooth BG.

What a superb head shot, Doug. This really gives us an up close look at this bird and it's beak. The details in this just blow me away and nice use of fill flash. You used a tripod!!!!

The IQ of this image is beautiful.
I like the composition as well.
Who needs to see this bird IRL when one has a shot like this to look at. You bring the outdoors in, Doug.

Gorgeous, sharp details and colors. Nicely composed against a great bg. Nice flash work too.
If anything, I'd have preferred just a tiny bit of head turn.
