Still in the RUMOUR phase, but should be enough to make some folks start salivating and opening extra credit card accounts...

Going to be interesting the future debates and in depth discussions when comparing this new Nikon lens with the Canon 800L f/5.6 once it's released.

Artie says a 70-200mmF2.8 with two stacked 2x teleconverters is just as good and more versatile .
Roger says the it isnt because even though its the same number of pixels on the subject they are stacked on top of each other rendering the ratio of effective to actual pixels the inverse of the square root of 7.
Arash and Doug of course have diametrically opposing agreements to each other and everyone else.
Artie will want this translated to plain English.
Daniel will want to chime in that his 100-400 only needs a single 2X to achieve the same thing if it would only mount on the lens.
Did I forget anyone?
Aww come on James! Say something!
Just Kidding! Please don't ban me! It was just a joke! REALLY!!!!!

And Larry will dispense some pills, photograph eagles in his backyard and then start trouble on the forums.
It was nice having you here Larry.
I think you nut-shelled the discussion. Funny stuff.

Great to see Nikon release such a lens. I shoot Canon but it always good when competition is available.
Will be a killer lens, for sure!

Interesting, they don't talk about VR even in the lens name "AF S NIKKOR 800mm f-5.6G" but in the picture its shows a VR switch, the VR on and off system its different from 500mm f/4 and 600mm f/4.
