    Recently I found this coot searching for food in a muddy marsh. I wonder -- was it listening for buried food (invertebrates?) or looking to see clearer or what? I've searched for info about coots' diets and food-searching habits and have not come up with a definitive/satisfactory answer. Very minor crop and adjustment in LR3.

    Not sure the answer to your query...to me it looks like it wanted to scratch itself but I'm sure you would have seen that happening. I could go for darker blacks here, and there is the semblance of subject movement on the head. Great look at the huge foot

    Yes it looks to me also as if were scratching it's neck, or about to, I see lots of these feeding around here and I'm pretty sure they don't hunt by ear....interesting pose, but a bit much blur around the head sadly
