    Default A Flaming Redhead

I took this photo during my last trip to Florida with Jim Neiger. This is the same Pileated Woodpecker that I posted a head shot of not too long ago. I did a little work on the BG to clean things up.

    Nicely composed image. 700mm, 1/125 HH - that's impressive....
Here is a repost with some COLOUR BALANCE shifted towards the yellow.

Hi Doug - Pose, details, bg and comp all work very well. I'm not sure of what the proper color should be but do feel that there is a slight magenta cast on the back in the op.

What a pose...love the erect crown!! Great subtle head turn, and spot-on comp. I was going tio suggest warming it up, glad Ofer reposted what I had in mind.

Ofer's repost looks a bit better, but a very nice photo, Doug.
The BG is very complementary to the Woodie, and nice diagonal perch as well.

What a great Pileated capture, Doug, and Ofer's repost really brings it up a notch. Not an easy comp to work with, and I like what you've done.

Super sharp for the low SS, very nice Doug. I also prefer like the warmer version TFS.

Wow, terrific execution, Doug. The comp is excellent and so is the pose and exposure.
Sharpness at 1/125th in indeed remarkable - must be a breeze for somebody who routinely handheld the old 600 :)

Hi Doug, gotta love that alert pose, and you have exposed the blacks so well on this fellow. I like how the 'perch' goes diagonally across the frame, with the woodpecker posed vertically. Good sharpness for such a slow ss.
