Ok, here is the black and white image referred to in my previous thread which is located here http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ead.php/100243 . A bid more "head" in this one, so what do you think?

Love the action, moment, mood and atmosphere here Rudi!
Works best for me in B&W...
    ...but...
it's too "grey"...not enough tonal range...

looking at your histogram there's so much data on the light side that is getting lost...

So...here's a repost...by just adjusting the histogram in levels (you can use 'curves' too)...

...and here's the adjusted histogram...I would even go for a bit of a brighter feel in the dust by tweaking the midtone slider more to the RHS...

oh - and what is the story with the rubber arm??

Very interesting Morkel! I always keep an eye on the histogram, but tend to forget about it once I have worked in Silver Efex... Will keep it in mind...

Have a look at my last post here: http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ildebeest-Duel . Wasn't thinking to post this image now, hence the rubber arm...

    Thanks for the help Morkel...

Silver Efex is awesome...but I've found that sometimes it can take the "thinking" out of the conversion process. These days I actually convert more in CS5 than in Silver Efex, cause it gives me more control. Just a challenge to lay down to you

The B&W blows the color version away. I loved the OP until I saw Morkel's version and realized it was an improvement. Really well seen and executed!!!
