This single male BtGodwit turned up on my local estuary here in West Wales, UK. These birds are passing through and many of them are already changing into their superb breeding colours. Unlike most of our shorebirds, this bird was reasonably approachable, but I still had to use the 500 + 2x. I know the sun angle is not ideal but soft mud and the site dictated my movements.

Nice pose, though a bit too centered for my tastes and the image looks a little contrasty for me, probably from the mid day light.

I'm curious why you were at 800 ISO at 1:30 in the afternoon, especially with a shutter speed of 1/2000. Seems like you could have been down at ISO 200 no problem.

    Melvin,
Very nice capture, like the soft colors, however; your subject is dead center in the frame for my liking. Suggest you off center him to the left...

You have never been to the UK Jim :) I have been there for weeks and was lucky to see the sun once or twice (I remember that a diet pepsi 750 ml was $4 and thats before the usd crashed).

Very cool subject, the pose is very good and the colors are great although the sun is a little strong.

Ideally I would like to see more room in front of the bird as less behind. Also some sharpnening on the important bits would really make the details stand out better.

You should have felt the wind!!! It was a case of shooting when it briefly stopped and the bird's feathers were not ruffled. Shooting time and light angle were dictated by the location and tide.
    Thanks for your comments.
