    Hi Dan,

Gterat bg, but the bird looks a bit dark and the eye a bit soft to me.

A tad more brightness would make this pop a little more, although the darker tones add nice mood. Love the light filtering through the flight feathers and great wing form showing...even a decent catchlight in the eye

Dan - good points by Richard and Phil. Nice detail in the near wing.

I don't repost that often but this was my first PP of this shot and I thought the whites were too bright so I
kept the one I posted a bit dark.
It was a tough shot actually, the gulls were banking over water and the flying past the dark forest bg.
I only wanted a forest BG with the wings in the downstroke. i wish the far wing was a 1/2" lower.
It is just a gull, so I wanted something different.
    Here is a brighter version.
I don't think anything about this is soft though.

I really like your first image, I like the dark background and the colours of the gull. I also attach another version for your consideration it may not be to your liking as I think some of the dramatic appearance has been lost. Originally I did a curves adjustment but then as an alternative I selected all the brightest parts and then inverted the selection and made a brightness adjustment layer and just lifted it a little bit.

Nice bg, comp, and looks perfectly sharp to me.
I wish the far wing hadn't been merged with the bill, but a very nice image anyway, Dan.
The light is very interesting and the bird is aglow.
I like your repost the best (minus the parts where the selection has bled into the bg)

Hi Dan, what a great flight posture, and what a great view of the near wing - oodles of feather detail there. Ive scrolled through all three versions, and would take an inbetween gull of your OP and Jon's post on your OP's BG. Hope thats makes sense.
