Something a little different ? Emus are quite common and the last year or so has seen the species breed up since decent rains have begun again. It's the male bird that does all the rearing of the chicks and clutches of 10 or more are the norm. This group crossing a dirt track road north east of Adelaide in a region known as Gluepot Reserve, a large region of native Mallee vegetation set aside purely for conservation of many endangered species of fauna http://www.riverland.net.au/gluepot/

Not a planned shot at all, just an opportune moment snapped with a Tamron 90mm macro lens while in the car.

    Nikon D300 + Tamron 90mm macro...f9, 1/1250, ISO 400, -0.3EV, pattern metering, hand held, no flash

    Hi Phil,

Great opportunity taken, and I like the overall composition. Hope you were driving slowly!

Hi Phil - nice to see the emus. You did well with the grab shot.

Phil: I really like the shot as it shows the environment as well. I think I'd try to lift the shadows a bit to improve the head of the Dad.

Nice environmental shot, good looking family. That must be one busy dad!

Thanks for looking, lifting the shadows on Dads's head tended to make things a bit more grainy, cheers folks
