Default A gentler, softer grebe, working doggedly as grebes are wont to do

    Folks,
This was taken the other night with the Canon 7D and 400m f5.6...iso640, 1/2000, 5.6...this is about 80% of the original.
I love and admire these grebes and their steadfast determination. Why lose oneself to the bullying geese, the thieving gulls, the coyotes and minks? No no! Build your nest! Two eggs so far...the hatchlings, heaven help them, could arrive in 2 or 3 weeks...yo espero...I hope and wait...also, one cannot truly "love" birds as the love can never be reciprocal. Birds, like most animals, have no love for us. Our anthropomorphism, always born of vanity, gets in the way every time...still, I feel something for these grebes that feels a lot like love...

Beautiful color in the water. Nice exposure and detail in this behavioral image. Might take some off the bottom.

Great behavior here, Jack. Agree that your subject is too centered. I would take a chunk off of the bottom and a tad off of the right so that it doesn't turn into a pano. The water is quite lovely here and I like the angle of the bird and nesting materials. Could you have gotten any lower for this image?

Hi Marina, I could have only gotten lower in theory...I would have knocked over the 65 year old lady next to me...sitting on the bridge is one thing...lying down on it is something entirely different...

Good crop suggestions by the others. Well exposed and sharp, water color is lovely.

Thanks Jack...with this particular photo I'm inclined to keep it as is...I'm so fond of the water that I want as much of it as possible, within reason. The centered bird doesn't bother me in the slightest, and in fact I like the composition this way. That said, I can see the other side of this coin as well. After all, I'm not completely insane!
