    Default Red-necked Grebe

This was my first outing with the 7D about a month ago.

In early spring we get an influx of Red-necked/Horned Grebes at the local harbour for about 3 weeks. Most of them leave but a few will stay and try to make a nest. This is one of the pair that had 3 eggs and it just finished it's shift sitting on them. I took this picture in the start of it's preening routine.

Silkypix RAW converter and Elements 10 for processing. It's almost full frame with some croppimg on the right side and bottom, level adjustment and sharpening.

Thank you for looking and comments are appreciated.

Maybe another round of sharpening on the head and neck as that area seems soft. Otherwise a nice capture. Love the look-back pose.

The image doesn't need any more sharpening . Nice shot . Bill

I find this to be a pleasing image, and I like that look back pose. The head looks sharp to me, and I see quite a bit of feather details on the head and neck Colors are pleasing. I like it.

    Ramon:

Nice pose, shooting angle, exposure, good looking bird.

I could see a bit more sharpening around the eye, mainly to give it a bit more local contrast and help it pop a bit more.

    Cheers

Nice placement in frame and low pov, with good details and color.

Good details, and a typical "swimming away" grebe pose Just a degree or so more head turn would have been perfect (as is the head seems angles slightly away from us). I'd crop a sliver at bottom to hide the dark streak at bottom edge. Hope you are enjoying the 7D...and check out the new firmware update for it announced recently!!
