Hello all! First post here. Looking forward to becoming a part of the communitty and learning from what appears to be a very talented group! Also looking forward to sharing as well.
I photgraphed this White Breasted Nuthatch early last year. I had set out a suet block earlier this particular week nearby where this was shot. This morning I had set out my blind and sometime within the first couple hours of the morning this fellow came along. Any comments and critique are welcomed and appreciatted!
    Shot with:
    Nikon D300s
    Sigma 150-500mm @500mm
    f/8
    1/320
    ISO 640
    Aperature Priority
    Center Weighted Metering
Basic sharpening and crop for comp
P.S. I do know this is a bit tight at the top and I would have preffered a little more space there but, this I what I have.

Welcome to the Group Michael. As you stated a bit close but everything else looks great. I love the colors (of the bird and tree) very sharp and BG is nice and blurred.

Welcome Michael. This is a great first post. Fine details and very nice composition. Some of the whites seem a little hot , but still a great image.

Welcome aboard. Excellent first post and good self critique. Doing noise reduction on BG will improve this significantly. If mine, I'd take a tad off from the bottom.

    Looking forward to your contributions.

Welcome aboard, Michael. Nice frst post and what a great pose on this bird. Your exposure looks good and you have a lot of details here. Your image is suffering from noise which can be easily remedied with a round or two of noise reduction. I would like to see just a little more room on top to give a little extra room for your tail.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Ditto 2 on Marinas comment....this is very nice Michael, the detail is excellent as id the light, a bit large in the frame maybe, but it does work to show off that fine detail well. Looking very similar to what we call a Treecreeper here, or Varied Sitella and looking at the posture and long claws possibly it has the same feeding habit of climbing tree trunks

Thanks to all for the warm welcome, kind comments, and critiques! I would have preferred more room at the top myself. I'll have to go back and take a look at the sharpening. This was an edit from early last year and as others have mentioned and it appears, I don't believe I have run any NR so I will see what I can do there. I appreciate all the input! Always enjoy learning what and how others see as to improve my own vision and skill as much as possible.

My Version of your image . Selected the BG reduced noise using Topaz NR tool . Played with the exposures and cropped the image .

    Hope you like it .

Welcome to Avian Michael! I have a soft spot for nuthatches, so I love your choice of subject as your introductory post. Classic pose well captured, and I love the perch. Great details. BG noise is nicely cleaned up on the repost. I agree with your self critique about more space above. I would have preferred a bit better head angle (HA) though as here it is seemingly angled slightly away from us. Good job overall, and looking forward to more!!

Karl- Thank you for the compliment!

Ram- I like it very much! Will have to do a re work and improve things. Thank you for taking the time yourself and sharing!

Daniel- I love Nuthatches myself! I agree on the noise issue. For some odd reason I didn't pick up on it before posting, oh well! Good point on the head angle as well.

Thank you all again for the kind welcomes!
