Whatever critique, this image and bird will remain one of those special meetings.

I was walking throught he forest near Playa Matapalo on Costa Ricas Osa pPeninsula when I spotted this fella hiding in the trees.
I think this is the dark morph.

Conditions for getting a shot were pretty bad, bright sun directly behind but very dark and dense forest
Anyways I had a go and I have some pics so I am posting so thos einterested can see the species. I have taken out the sticky BG with a 2 gaussian, sharpened in smart and denoised

Played around with S& H and I think its not so bad. These are very uncommon birds I was lucky to see it.

Taken from tripod, in thick jungle with the 100-400 at 285 f 5.6 Ev +1 ISO 800

Sometimes we have to take what we get Richard. Love the Owl (what a stare) and great environmental shot. Kind of looks like one of my old College Professors...Nice Catch

    Thanks Jeff

Sure one day I may catch one in the open; incidentally this was in fact the first Owl I ever took a picture of.
It was even difficult to get through the jungle to get this shot; there are some bad things in there lol, and in fact when I left I had got lost for a few minutes - eek

    Hola Nelson

Thanks, yes sometimes it is very difficult to even find these species, the forest is so dense and the light is crazy too
but this is why I love CR , so much fun, wish I was out there right now! In one year of walking I only saw this one Owl!!
