The male this time and early morning a day or so ago.
5DIII, 700mm, ISO800, f/8, 1/1000
Cropped vertical from horizontal and only RAW convertor sharpening. I toned down and cleaned up the perch a bit and smudged out a bit of sky here and there.
Excellent job especially edited only from RAW, nice job on the backdrop , very smooth. Like the small tuft of grass too, but I personally would crop more of the stump off to just below the birds tail
Like the raised leg and pose. Agree on taking some from the bottom, maybe to just below the large knot. There's still some blue from the sky evident near the top, I would consider cloning in the green instead.
What a great sighting.
I agree with cropping more from the bottom.
I like the leg up and the composition of the image.
I might add a bit more contrast or add a couple of points to the blacks and neutrals in selective colors in CS5,
Gail
This is truly a kick butt picture, Dave. Your perch is amazing and a strong element of your image. I would not crop any of it b/c I think the comp works so well as is. I do feel as though your overall image is on the bright side and your whites up against the edge. Very well done!!!
Love this one, stump is a great element. On my monitor, it looks just a tad washed out, and I think lowering the brightness just a few points and perhaps adding a touch of contrast would improve this ever so slightly.
Thanks so much for the excellent comments and suggestions. They are always helpful. I will do a bit more work on photo and interesting split on the stump.
Hi Jamie, It is full frame vertical. Yes 5Diii is very nice camera, but I sure miss the crop factor at times. For birds I imagine I will almost always be at 700mm. But I think it will be great on our often low light days and higher ISO's.
Hey congrats on the family! Big change in your life.
Thanks Dave, life has certainly changed but in a really good way. Now all I gotta do is find time for my photography.
I think the 5D mark III might be the way forward because like you said we often have low light and I think being able to work in lower light will deliver more dynamic images.
Have you had a chance to take many images at higher ISO's such as 3200?
I posted one June 13th. I am still catching up on processing skills so something to be desired there, but I was quite happy with a look at the detail at 100%.
Don't forget that if you use ACR to convert you need version 7.1 which is LR4 which also meant CS6 for me.
