The sightings of tigers were a plenty , for people in our group , but in other jeeps :), none for the ones who tagged along with me . I was delighted with the jackals ....a lifer for me !!! Saw around 13 of them in 3 safari rides . This was in Pench Tiger Reserve , in Central India , on which the Jungle Book was based .

Hi Rakesh, another nice story to go with the image and obviously 13 was a lucky number for you, plus what an excellent location too. It's great to be in a location where you are the only one, something I do strive for, but it appears a rarity these days.

Regarding the image there are a couple of points I am struggling on. I do find the colour a little flat with no real contrast, the, what seems to be OOF vegetation an issue too, hitting key parts of the subject i.e. nose, body, face. It looks like you have focused on the Jackal facing us, but I feel you could add some more selective USM perhaps, but be careful. The colour too seems quite strong towards the reds, now this could well be a true reflection, but I wonder if it is dominating the whites and tone? It's gone a tad crunchy, but hope this illustrates my thinking and the direction of my thoughts.

Hope to see more in the coming weeks.

Nice composition and low angle here Rakesh...and thanks for sharing the story!
I like what Steve did but I am not sure of their true colour? What is the exact subspecies of jackal?

Thanx Steve for the suggestions and work on the image . These are golden jackals , and it is about the same in the OP . I like what you have done with the sharpening , maybe , I could go up one notch for sharpening in the OP . Since it is summer and the jungles are really dry , the OP does have a kind of a monotone which is quite natural .

Hi Rakesh, actually quite a bit believe it or not.

Perhaps the answer might be to duplicate the BKG and adjust that only both in terms of overall % & the Red, then bring the jackals back in via a mask? On reflection the sharpening I think is too much making it a tad crunchy as I say.
    cheers

    Rakesh,

Great capture, much prefer your OP as it reflects a more natural colour of the animals in question.
