I saw the local Coyotes in the refuge today for the first time in months.
Summer coat and aggressive as ever. I began shooting about 50 feet away and the
Coyote started walking towards me. A few seconds and he was too big for the full frame,
I stood up and it jumped.
This is a crop, but not that much, you can see from the DOF, how close it was.
Hi Dan, the wet coat adds interest to the subject and the mere fact you ended up with a more 'close-up' shot isn't an issue IMHO, but good field craft to start shooting prior. Personally I think you could add a fraction more selective USM on the eyes and just open some shadow detail in the nose. Not sure about the vibrancy of the green, but the colour of the subject looks good, so...:w3 With something like this, I just wonder if you could go in slightly tighter, loosing a third to half off the foot, two thirds off the right and finally half the space off the LHS?

Hi Dan - hopefully they keep their distance in the future. You did well under the circumstances and Steve has made good suggestions (as usual) for improving the image.

love the vibrance here Dan
good DOF too, the crop is cool for me, having been in a similar situation recently with African Painted Dogs I understand the constraints and the excitement!
maybe brighten the eyes and nose a tad, get more detail out of it?
