A small species of the Dragon species lizard from Australias red sand interior = the " Outback "......this one about 20cm/8 inches long.
I guess the shallow dof will not be to everyone's tastes but I rather thought it brought more attention to the head and eye...what say you ?
Nikon D300 + Tamron 90mm macro...90mm, f8, 1/1600, ISO 400, -0.3 EV, no flash, handheld, cropped slightlly and basic editing with sharpen and noise
taa for looking folks

Phil, I like shallow DOF on these guys as long as the eyes/head are in focus and you nailed this one. The detail and colors are awesome. If I had one nit, it would be that you clipped his right fore-foot. It would be nice if it were entirely in the frame.

Good detail in the head and DOF. I would like to see more of the lizard including the tail OOF though. Maybe shooting more of a side profile might have been better.
Cool image and sometimes we have to look beyond the nits and enjoy the image we got.

I really like the details and colors. For me the cutting of the feet is a bit of a problem. I would like to see the incl of the feet and more DOF as you had more than enough shutter speed. I still like it though!
Interesting signature....Close call with nature? Would be interested to hear the story behind it!

Hi Phil, would agree that you needed to have included the feet/claws both front & back, lowering the frame would also have help the composition, too much space above IMHO. Perhaps backing off would have helped as well as increasing your DOF, upping your ISO with the Nikon would not have hurt either. Colours look nice and rich, but to me the focus point looks to be set on the jaw or just below rather than the eye?

Hi Phil,
I like the colours of your image and the DOF, but agree with the above mentioned crits on the clipping.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes,
Mark.

Love the colours, pose and sharpness here Phil...
The feet - in this case - is a deal-breaker for me (though not always).
Maybe a closer crop will work better? Focus on the chest/head?

I would just crop tight, eliminate the feet entirely and focus on the upper body and head if the IQ holds up.
Beautiful lizard.
