This island was rumoured to be the staging ground for an invasion of iran by US troops late February this year. Turned out to be a nothing but a rumour, thank goodness.
Friends of mine have been thereand loved it.

Looks like a beautiful place...TFS.

I've been in Socotra 5 y. ago. Fantastic places! many birds and reptiles are variant of the common ones. If you're inrested just look into the web. But....Yemen is actually a difficult country as the usual problem boke out(radical islamic, Sciites gueriila in the centre, old complaints of the south towards the north,etc). My tour operator is not going anymore there.
