Does that mean the 1Dx will focus with a 2x on the 600mm? That would be huge!
Arash Does the 600 plus the new 2x,tc AF on the new 5D3
No, Brian.
Arash, I have serious doubts about how much these lenses can be improved. I'm hoping for some objective reviews here because I'm sure there will be many people saying they're better to make themselves feel justified for spending that much on the new glass...can't wait to see what you have to say. However, with Canon's delays recently I wouldn't expect it any time soon. I think late June or the first of July is still ETA.
Colin the lens is obviously a HUGE upgrade over the current ones just because of the weight saving alone. i.e. if the lenses are just as sharp as the current ones it is still a no brainier for those who handhold to get the new lenses. Currently many people cannot handhold the 600 f/4, but they will be able to handhold the MKII.
The miracle Canon has achieved with these lenses is the weight and probably not sharpness or AF as the current ones are really good. That said based on MTF sharpness has improved noticeably when used with TCs.
Don't forget the improved IS. It is noticeable.

The weight is a big deal for the 600mm. But we're young Arash! Stay strong. haha Regarding IS, I've never been in a position where I needed more than the Version 1 lenses offer. Anyway, looking forward to reviews.
Comparing the new version II 300f2.8 to the older version, there is a marked improvement in how much less susceptible the new version II lens is to flare. I tested both lenses at the same time, shooting with the sun in the frame, and the 300 II was about 40 percent better...so that would be a real world improvement if it is the same on the 600.
Colin, if you're as strong as you imply, you should try hand holding. Particularly for BIF, it'll increase your keeper ratio substantially.
David, I'm not implying anything. What I said earlier was half in jest. Guess I should have added a :S3:. And yes, I hand hold all my flight shots. And yes, it gets tiring unless the shooting is good enough not to notice it.
