Elms

I was enchanted by these Elms. The second largest one in the image is an American Elm--the most beautiful I've seen--and is thriving. They have two more smaller American Elms.

Very nice. I especially like the detail and the soft colors. This is one of those cases in which the rules of composition need to be tempered by showing the subject to its greatest potential. Following the rule would lead to cropping a good bit off the top to make the roof of the house higher in the image. I definitely agree with your choice of showing more of the tree's elevation.

Nicely done with the soft feel of the applications. Amost looks like a light snowfall.

Reminds me of the Elms that use to be down the street from us. They were all cut down in my youth, due to the Dutch Elm desease that swept through our area. It changed the whole nature of the neighborhood.

Dennis is right in a way....the rule would take off the top, but....I think the focus is not the home but the elms (hence, the title). and the 3rds does work verically 1/3 house, 1/3 trees, 1/3 distance area. Very nice treatment, Anita.

Anita, I can see why you were drawn to this image. I love the tree on the left with the path and the old house. When I was looking at this on my phone yesterday I could only see part of the image at a time so I cut the image in half and looked at the right and then the left side and the left side with the one tree and the path seemed to be a vertical image all by itself. Now I guess after seeing that the right side seems conjested to me and the large Elm in the center is overpowering IMHO. I think if I didn't see the image in half like that I could be more objective so it might be a good idea to listen to the others on this one.:S3:

I appreciate the feedback. That front tree does dominate. I might tone it down some more. I'm also going to try cutting it in half as Denise did, and see what I think. :-)
