This is the original image I used from the previous "Flower Wave" post. Decided to try a B&W conversion. Liked the back-lighting and "looking in" perspective. Kind of reminded me a little bit of a shadowbox. Used Nik Silver Effects, and adjusted levels and contrast in CS5. Wasn't exactly sure how to handle the dark outer borders.

Hey, Brendan, from the thumbnail I thought it was a slot canyon:S3: I love the perspective and the backlighting. The dark edges enhance the feeling of "looking in" but there is something about it that is a little troublesome to me. Maybe a little off the top would help. It'll be interesting to see what others think.

Very cool abstract feel to this, Brendan. I thought of canyons also. Love the subtle tones and texture that you developed for this B&W. It also appeals to me in each 90 degree rotation. :S3:

Brendan, I thought it was a slot canyon shot too! I like your idea of "looking in". I wonder how it would look if the vignette followed the lines of the petals at the top.

Nice image and application, Brendan.
Like the flow.
If it were mine I would use Selective Color to enhance the black end of the tones. There doens't appear to be a true black area in the image. But Y.I.Y.V.

Nice abstract, Brendan. I like the flow of the petals and the sense of "peeking through" that the vignette gives it. I agree with Mark on darkening the blacks. I think that would give it more punch. I also might add a little more room to the left if possible.

Thanks very much for comments, folks, very helpful. Made some modifications using your suggestions, including rotation, increasing darks & contrast, and evening out border. I think it gives it more drama, and looks even more like slot canyon!

What a great repost, love it. I also was thinking canyons … how clever to get this from flowers.

Brendan, when I first saw the thumbnail, I thought I was looking into a lite cave entrance, to my surprise it was a flower. Very OOTB, well done
