I had a fun time doing this. I used a smear brush to make the fire come out from the face. Then I saturated it.

Ooh! Spectacular image Sandy! Really like this. I might darken the face a bit and maybe brush some of the original detail of the mane back into the streaky parts. Super work! :5

I was gonna say that there is too much contrast between effect/no effect. Therefore Kerry's suggestion is an excellent one.
