Seeing all the owl posts decided to post one from Africa. Taken in Kruger National Park this immature Verreaux's eagle Owl was calling out to the parents nearby. Adults also have the characteristic pink eyelids. Taken early morning, low light conditions in tree canopy.

C&C allways welcome.

Beautiful image Pieter! I like the composition, sharpness where it's needed, matching beak/eyelids, complimentary BG and dark reflective eyes.

I really like the texture of this one Pieter. The pink eyelids and mouth really pull you in. Nice details and action with the mouth open. Background seems a bit distracting but not too bad.

I love the bird and the open mouth. I find the BG quite distracting and would try some dodging. Excellent IQ with the 7D and low light,
Gail

Such a striking bird. Love the open beak, the horizon visible in the eyes, and the streaked BG. Nice portrait Pieter.

Hi Pieter, love the open beak here, and his tongue is very similar to a humans tongue. I like the expression on the face too, and the eyelids puts this over the top.

Thank you all for commenting, much appreciated.
Not much I could do about the BG as the owl was up against the tree trunk, but I will try Gail's suggestion to minimise the distraction.
