Reworked this one during some hard drive purging. Early July, overcast, late afternoon shot on the prairie. Nice to see one perched on something not man made. 40D, 400 DO + 2xTCII, f9, 1/125s, ISO 400, +1/3 EC, HH from vehicle, cropped from top and right.

Hi Steve, interesting pose, and I like how you have placed the owl high in the frame. Good eye contact, and I like the inclusion of the cacti below, together with the mottled BG. I feel taking a bit off the top wont harm the image. :w3

I would "take a little off the top" as well...could you identify the bird, please, it's a different fellow than I'm used to, that's for sure...

nice eye contact and a good perch, I like the BG and the cactus. the IQ is not great however perhaps a large crop...

Hi Steve, like the image design and comp but might also consider a little off the top. Lovely soft light, BG and eye contact.

I like the perch, flowering cacti, pose and BG. I agree with taking some off the top.

Thanks for the comments guys. I think I might take a look at another version with a little off the top.
Jack,
This is a Burrowing Owl. See Robert's post above for a better look.
