I'm looking of a lightweight camera to take on trips . I'm leaning to the Nikon because it can track birds in flight where other mirror less cameras cannot.

Hi,
I have been reading a lot about this camera lately, because of its 2.7x crop factor. This means that with, e.g. a 300mm. Nikon lens, attached by the FT1 adapter, you get a relatively compact, hand-holdable high-quality 810mm. equivalent lens. There are some pretty impressive bird pictures published on e.g. Birdforum. Otherwise, as a general walk-around camera, it sounds as good in some ways as other high end point and shoots - see recent comments on DPReview.

I was thinking about it.

It is an intriguing idea, but there are some serious limitations on its focusing ability with the FT1 and F mount lenses. I believe that only the center sensor is active, so BIF would be a challenge in many cases.
For perched birds, might work well.
Just be sure to check out the limitations of the set up before purchasing.
I may rent one to try it out myself.
Cheers
Randy
As Randy mentioned, there are limitations if you plan to use FT1 and F mount lenses, be sure to check those out. For example, if you plan to use autofocus then you can only use AF-S, you won't be able to use AF-C with FT1, which is bad for BIF. However with lenses that design for Nikon 1 system the focus is good. I have the J1 model, so far there only a few situation where the focus refuses to lock on, like trying to shoot out of an airplane window when the sun is about to raise on the horizon. I think V1 and J1 has the same sensor and AF system, but V1 has EVF and higher buffer which is more suitable for BIF.ps: I did have fun turning my J1 into spy cam with FT1, 2x TC, and 300mm f/2.8 (1620mm like view). The IQ may not be that great, but fun anyway :D
