Skimmer Bonding

Having a tough time with my new computer, so haven't been doing any processing in some time. Going back through old files, I found this gem that I don't think I have posted previously. I love the proximity and therefore intimacy portrayed here, but also how you can really get a good comparison between the adult and chick. This was shot in vertical with no clean up.

Canon 40D, Canon 400DO & 1.4 TC @ 560mm
F11, 1/250sec, ISO 200, manual mode
Feisol tripod, Mongoose head

Sweet as ever Marina. Looks like we are on the same boat with the new computer thing. What a PITA!!! Anyway I like this image alot and I like the position and expression of the chick as well as the nice soft light. I wonder if maybe a little from the top? and maybe a sliver to the bottom? .

Fantastic picture of the parent with the chick. I love the way both have their beak open, as if talking to each other.
HA and eye contact are perfect for both.

I'd bump up the contrast a bit and sharpen the birds more something like this

Thank you, Arash, for the repost. It looks good, although I do see a significant halo around the bird which I assume is from your selection. As I was posting it, I thought it needed more sharpening but decided to let the viewers/critiquers be the judge.

Halo is from working with small JPEG, I'm sure you will do much better starting from RAW.

Marina,Wonderful capture and love the way you captured open beak of parent and chick...agree with Arash on little sharpening.

Very nice shot. I like these parent/chick shots a lot. The only small nit in this one is the shadow that covers part of the chick's eye.

What a dream of a shot, Marina. I think the extra sharpening was needed. Lovely comp, and great for comparison indeed.

Wonderful image. I like that this was shot as a vertical. The sharpening really did help the image. I like the HA of both birds and the open beaks. Would love to see a repost working from your RAW,

Marina, I like the vertical composition. Good call in the field. all things you mentioned...I also agree with. light is terrific. Agree with Arash that some sharpening goes a long way.
