Have just returned from 4 weeks in the Sth Luangwa NP- Zambia, with what has been my most incredible safari experience ever, as they say over there for this time of year is known
as suicide month!......................never a more apt word.:w3 40+ deg's C (105+ F) most days with some Tsetse flies to keep you honest.
The lion on buffalo predation was amazing, plus other sights as well.........stay tuned.:w3
The weather gods proved to be well behaved, having experienced many threatening days but only one real downpour the whole time.
5.41pm.
The no-tip tailed female from the Nsefu pride was the first to spot 2 male Buffalo drinking on the other side of the river and promptly crossed, followed by the others.
(would have preferred the whole reflection, but the shoreline was coming into play) :2eyes2:
What followed that evening was the stalking, attacking and eventual death of BOTH buffalo!
An amazing scene to witness!

C & C most welcome
Cheers

Nice, unusual BG for lion, and love her intense stare.
I was in Nsefu area (camps Nsefu and Tena Tena) in Sep of 2005 and 2006. Both times saw the Nsefu pride hunt and kill Puku antelope. Just after sundown.
That South Luangwa area like no other wild area I've seen in Africa, like stepping back in time a million years. Unfortunately, those safari camps for me are of marginal value ($$$$) compared to others.

Marc, I like the intense, focused stare, and the pressure wave in front of the lioness. Well done!

Hi Marc, nice to have you back, and in one piece I trust. :bg3:
Looks like the time of day has helped with the highlights on the water and have helped to separate the subject from the BKG nicely. I also like the bow wave created by her movement through the water. Nice placement within frame and as John mention, the intense stare really grabs you, well done.
Can agree with you re heat, having just come back from Botswana 36-40+ deg+, now back, it is a mild 12. :w3
Look forward to more in the coming weeks.

Love your low angle. It looks like you are in the water with her. The stare and the bow wave make the photo.

Top shot Marc, and I am sorry that I am going to be away with intermittent internet access the next 8 days, I hope I am not going to miss out on more of the story...
Love the exposure here, and ditto all above positive comments. Good work

Excellent start here Marc, and good to have you back with some "fresh meat" to share with us hungry photo-carnivores :w3.
Nice soft-light and head-on angle here, and I too like the wave created by her walking.
Interested in your comments and further details of this safari...South Luangwa is high on my wish-list and would love to visit if I can find an affordable option...
Let's see the buffalo-lion-shots! :eek3:

Marc - Welcome back. Sounds like a great and successful trip. If this is any indication, we're in for a treat. Well done and as others have said the stare, comp and wave take this over the top. Looking forward to more.

Rachel

This is lovely. The low angle + wave in front of paw + lioness= a keeper for sure. It is so nice to see a lion picture without the usual dry sandy environment. Looking forward to seeing more,
Gail
