Hey all, thought I'd share this pan-blur image I created a few weeks ago of a flock of geese taking off early morning one beautiful fall day. Notice the Mallard that has overtaken third place in the "race" to open waters.
Canon 7D + 100-400L @105mm, shutter priority, evaluative metering, 1/10s., f/9, ISO 800, +1.7 EC, full-frame except cropped to pano. A couple of goose butts removed form front edge (so I guess technically the mallard wasn't really in third place after all!!:t3)
Doing a pan blur with so many geese (and a mallard) probably not all flying at the same speed must be tricky business, but you did a great job. Nice colors. And the pano crop works very well for this image. I'd have been tempted to remove the two upper birds on the left and the two lower ones on the right and add some more canvas on the left, but it's very engaging just the way it is.
Really nicely done blur Daniel. I like the panning look and the way your birds stand out from the BG. I might evict the 1/2 bird on the right edge. Lovely colors and the pano crop was a good choice. I think "Race to Open Waters" is a great title.:S3:
Awesome looking blur, Dan. Pano looks good. I like the pleasing bg and the blur is just enough. Agree with removing the 1/2 bird on the right. Very nice!

Greetings. Really like the detail in the birds midst the blur. Very cool. The color is great too. My eye would prefer a slight cw rotation.

Thanks all! I pondered taking away that half bird and did create such a version... but I thought it made the image too coincidental that not one bird was clipped. I'm see-sawing between the two versions:S3:. Thanks for the feedback!!
Another awesome blur, Daniel. Just the right combo of blur and detail, and great BG color / texture. Agree about evicting the half-bird on rt. Nicely done!
