It should - it does on a 600mm F4
Was wondering if it worked,,, (extremely well) ?
Thanks James,,, Ime guessing the AF is a little slow, how about image qaulity?
The 300 f/4 AFS is a nice lens that works well with the TC14E II teleconverter. With good light and technique, it works pretty well with the TC17E II, but light can be a problem. It will work with the TC20E III teleconverter, but as James suggests, not as well. The loss of light is the killer. You lose two stops plus it is a little better stopped down, so you are trying to shoot at f/9 to f/11. Shutter speed is problematic at f/9-f/11. AF barely works at f/9 unless you have excellent light. The center AF sensor is better. The combination is light enough at an effective 600mm that you may get some vibration, so technique is critical.
Bottom line - it will work but the 1.4 teleconverter is my first choice. I rarely use the 2.0 and would not consider it a cheap way to get to 600mm - it's more a way to get extra reach when you know that quality can be compromised a little.
Thankyou Eric
