I posted the original for this one in the Avian forum about a week or two ago. Fracted and cropped. Completely desaturated the image in Fractalius and then reduced the opacity of the layer to bring back some color and reduce the fractalius effect a little.

Wow. I like what you did with this. There's just enough color and just enough Fractalius effect. The steely gray, brown, and white is great, especially for the subject. I even wonder if the nontraditional aspect ratio is part of the appeal. Very nice work.
I love the precessing Andrew, Seems a touch tight on top. I did go and find the avian post and feel that the top portion of the original is slightly distracting so I can see why you trimmed it. I like the way the water looks and desaturating was a great idea. Love the water sprays.:S3:
I was thinking along the same lines as Denise - he feels very centered here from a horizontal standpoint but - you have to leave some room below for the legs and if the top is not worthy of being included then I think you did the best you could here.
I wouldn't mind seeing a little less fract on the lighter rocks just behind the heron but that's my personal taste - I like fract best when you can barely see it and that's how it feels to me in all areas except that one.
Nice choice to desat the image...it really unifies the entire thing.
Andrew, I think this is one of my favorite images of yours to date. The tight crop doesn't bother me...I think the slight-pano effect actually sets the image off...and the desaturated image with just the hint of color is wonderful. I agree with Julie's comment...a little less Fract on the rocks might have been nice...and I might have cropped a bit from the RHS...but all in all this is a very strong image. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Andrew, I like the processing and the notion that the heron is in a completely unexpected environment - looks like it's in Alaska hunting for salmon. I especially enjoy the detail on the bird. Nice work on this one!
