Hi all,
I am trying to perform the micro-adjustments to my Canon 800 f5.6 plus Canon 1D Mark IV combo. I have connected the camera to the laptop and opened Canon EOS Utility in the LIVE VIEW window. I do see the live image on the laptop but when I try to focus by pressing the focusing button - I get "busy" message in the camera and it won't let me focus. Can anyone please let me know what am I doing wrong?

Hi Ofer, I downloaded the pdf manual and I looked for instances of the busy message:
If the viewfinder displays “99” for the maximum burst, it means the maximum burst is 99 or higher. If the maximum burst decreases to 98 or lower and the internal buffer memory becomes full, “buSY” will be displayed on the top LCD panel and in the viewfinder and shooting will be disabled temporarily. If you stop the continuous shooting, the maximum burst will increase. After all the captured images are written to the card, the maximum burst will be as listed on page 61.
C.Fn II -1 Long exposure noise reduction
With setting 2, if a long exposure is shot during Live View display, “BUSY” will be displayed during the noise reduction process and the Live View display will not appear until the noise reduction is completed. (You cannot take another picture.)
Incidentally, can you take any pictures in tethered mode? Perhaps you have a full CF card and/or Hard Drive. The Eos Utlity allows you specify to download direct to computer or mirror on CF. One other thing is make sure you have the AF button enabled on the lens, I've forgotten sometimes and wondered why I couldn't use live mode focus.
I forgot to also say you can try pulling out all the batteries, and hoping the error resets.

Thanks Peter! OK, now I can see the live view on the camera and on the laptop, I don't get the "busy" message on the LCD but it won't autofocus when I press the focusing button on the camera....:e3
Have you tried tethering with Lightroom?
Hi Doug, thanks! I don't have lightroom and it should work with the Canon EOS Utility - I am sure it is just a small thing I am not doing right.
Just realised my autofocus doesn't work at all - need to see hwat happened.

What made it work?
I didn't realise I have to be able see liveview in the camera as well in order to be able to focus while viewing liveview on the computer.:w3Quote:

I made this mistake for a few sessions of adjusting my lenses. I was trying to adjust MFA without out actually seeing how each adjustment would affect the focus. What I couldn't figure out is why at just about every MFA level the focus looked pretty good. After making my lenses focus worse of then before I finally learned that you have to focus on the chart with Liveview turned off to see how the MFA affects focus.
