This image of an abandoned gold mine was taken midday, with strong sharp shadows. I thought the shapes and textures were more interesting than the colors, so I went black and white.........didn't use TOPAZ filter, rather did this with regular PS BW conversion. Then added a Simplify layer, and then added a Clean layer with Curly Smooth which gives hyper detail and texture. I liked the shadows of the trees and decided to give this a try as a moonlight shot. I switched to Low Key and layered in a very slight Glow to finish off the image. The sand piles and terraces are very bight white/yellow and iron red colors, so I'm guessing what they might look like in the moonlight. This size is too small to see that really cool ore cart and entrance on the right side........Hope you like it.

Hi Jay, I think this has a very interesting look - reminds me of an illustration. I like the different shapes and curve of the stream through the image. The toning is reminding me of an old selenium print. Cool!

Jay, I love the shapes and the image design, I do think a large print would be nice to see all of what is going on in the scene, you can send it to Denise Ippolito @ (hehehe:S3:). Nice conversion, I like the softness to the image, it does have a surreal look to it.

Interesting composition, Jay. It feels like a clay model! Excellent details and your processing to convert mid day sunlight to moonlight is impressive. Excellent work.

Hi Jay;
I'm late to the party...very interesting composition and image. I agree with Kerry; it looks like a selenium print...the cool tones help to create the illusion of moonlight. There are so many lines drawing your eye through the composition...and so many details that a post of this size just can't do justice to...you're going to have to share the print with me at some point. Great work!
