Lesser Yellow Legs at Dawn

No clouds yesterday morning so blue water this time :)

My eyes are drawn to angles created by the grass and when I saw the blade lying down between the two patches I planted myself and waited for the bird to assume a more upright posture so that the tall grasses weren't intersecting it's head. There wasn't a breath of wind but other birds in close proximity out of frame along with little fish kept stirring things up ever so slightly.

Nikon D300s, 600VR, TC14EII, ISO 640, 1/500, NearUniWB, CW metering, +2EV.

The conversion to srgb porked the yellows a bit. If obtrusive, I will upload in a different color space.

Jim this is absolute stunning image. HA, Sharpness, Light is just at its best.

the stem just pointing to the neck gives flow of intersection of head which i might think an issue here.

I dont know if you prefere to do so or not but to make this a wall hanger i might give more room on left and lift the entire stem portion including reflection and ove ro left..
(just to be on lil creative side IMO).

I understand the more room on the left and I hear your concern about the tall blade of grass which approaches close to the birds head...I could easily shorten that if need be.

Are you advocating moving all of the grass left also and increasing the space between the subject and the grass in total?

You got me right there on the moving part.

Not necessarily its important because it would be more of Digital Creation and i dont know the impact of the creation over to the ethics of digital editing for you so it was just as an optional suggestion IMO.

Striking, simple, neat.

The composition does lend itself to lots of experimenting. I would def. trim the grass near the bill down a bit.
I could see as Mital suggested, moving the entire grass complex to the left, so the grass on the right is not longer under the birds bill and then perhaps trimming the heights to create a smooth line angling down towards the left.

Great fun to be had playing with the lines and balance in this image. Very fine.

Gorgeous shot, and I like the repost(s). Great comp in any event, although with the OP I would cast another vote for trimming the one blade. Is this along the entrance drive on Plum Island?

It was on the main drive in the marsh. Not where I typically like to work but there were no birds where I didn't expect them to be anyway due to the tie being low out in the sound and most of the birds being out feeding.

I did find three of these in a very small pool and fortunately this one and the nice grass were situated such that I had no grass from behind reflecting into the image.

Just a little water hole in the marsh.

Thanks. I'd love to get back up there one of these days. Ran out of time on my last trip to Maine.

Great clean blue water and reflection. Reposts are good and I think trimming the one branch would have worked too.

For this to really work, the reflection has to be perfect, and it is soft.
I like the comp, it is just not sharp enough to work as an abstract to me.
