I eat jellyfish.

I caught this Pelican eating jellyfish the other morning. I have never seen this before.

1dMK4, 500mm +1.4ext, 1/2000 @ 5.6, iso 500. EV 0 - ( I should have gone -1/3 as the white are clipped in the raw file - recovery in ACR used) Taken at 8.18am. A bit tight?

Such a cool behavior capture, Tom, wonderful comp & detail. Love how clearly you can see the jellyfishthe and the arc of the drops is awesome. Agree on toning down whites a bit. Nicely done!

Tom: Congratulations on such a great shot of a behavior I've never seen either! Because the subject is so lateral, from the drips on the left to the water on the right, I tried a pano treatment by eliminating the blue on top. I liked it, and wonder if you tried that, and what you think? Great stuff!

Thanks for the comments Ron - thought the same but did not like the pano crop. I did try the same crop as presented and took out the blue replacing it with other BG. Went back to the original with the blue.

Great suggestion! Here is a repost with Ron's idea and some toning down the whites. Saved as sRGB.

No blue certainly helps the image. I just wish the Pelican had been closer and I had more room between the top of the bird and the blue. Your crop Ofer looks good. I may try this image again.

Fantastic action! Just love the jelly fish and the water quirting out. Eye contact is just great too.
Love the repost. I haven't seen this bird, but the whites look a bit bright.

Killer repost by my pal Ofer. Killer image. And amazing. A jellyfish???? Are you sure it is not gefilte fish? (Gefilte fish is a poached fish mince stuffed into the fish skin.) Love the pattern of water drops!

looked at Ofer's repost with fresh eyes this morning - certainly the way to go. Ron's suggestion was spot on. Gefilte fish is a poached fish mince stuffed..............I'm going to lunch!

Tom, I'm real late to the game here in commenting on this great image....sorry! Love the "prey" and the water splash. Certainly a unique image. Love the repost.
