"Emergency No-See-Um Protection"?

Never short of creativity as it comes down to protecting yourself from No-See-Um attacks while photographing brown bears during the recent Bear Boat IPT in Katmai National Park, Alaska. Some folks were clever enough to ask Chuck, the boat captain, for mosquito nets before we went out; most of us forgot and had to deal with a bunch of mosquito's buzzing around our heads while trying to make pictures. Artie never seems to be out of a practical solution to deal with the situation and quickly turned his woolen watch cap into an effective mosquito defense mechanism. Since there was only one hole to look through mwe all wondered if the pictures taken would be anything worthwhile?

Whatever works I guess. It does seem lacking in visibility though! Was the hole already there or did he make it? :bg3:

Most still mornings I simply shrugged off the no-see-ums but on this morning they were thick and chewing. So I borrowed a knife from Bill Keown and went to work. Most of the time I pulled up the watch cap while photographing :)

Dang, the No-See-Ums are bad when you can see then!
No-see-ums love my ears!!! I hate them.

How did the ski cap work for no-see-um protection.

Next time maybe some Cutter Advanced, it contains Picaridin rather than Deet.
Picaridin was as effective as Deet for me and it doesn't dissolve plastic!

That watch cap worked well but was too darned hot on my face. As you know, the are out only when it is still.

The LensCoat stuff is there to protect the lens from dings. I am a strong believer that if you move slowly you can wear what you wish.

Guess I need to become a hermit. My attempts at humor are bombing all over the place today. See, standing out in the open with a group of people is hardly stealthy no matter how you're dressed or your gear is covered. It was just a silly comment not meant to be taken seriously, hence the smiley.
