My fairly new (20,000 shutter clicks) D7000 had the broken rear monitor glass cover. I forgot to put the padding between the back of the camera and the front of a lens.
After about an hour searching the internet I found a replacement for $15.
I used a small L shaped pick to remove the glass. As a precaution I wore my goggles and picked the glass out over a plastic tub cover.
Vacuumed up any fine glass dust that remained and then glued the new glass back in.

Didn't your camera come with a clear protective plastic cover over the monitor screen that would have prevented the damage in the first place? Mine did. If you don't have the protective cover for some reason, it might be a good idea to get one and use it. :S3:Quote:

With all due respect, reviewing images through the crystal clear protective covers provided by Nikon hardly causes aggregation and in no way impedes viewing. It's a common sense way to avoid the damage you reported; one that I've used successively on Nikon D100, D200, D300 and D7000 cameras.Quote:

Wow nice work james, would now try that myself if mine was broken. Where did you find a replacement ? Did you call nikon for a price to fix it,or could you get the glass from them?
I read a tip on how to do this a few years ago, and it goes something like this ...
Warm up glass / glue with a hairdryer for about 30 secs
Use a suction cup to lift out the glass
Clean
Install new glass with genuine cover tape that can be purchased for this job.
It really is not a difficult repair but does take patience.
Glad to hear that this worked out for you for I had only ever read this being done on Canon Camera's
I haven't yet broken one, but it would not be surprising if I did. I would repeat the request to please tell us where you did find the replacement. BTW, i always remove the cover that Nikon provides, and I use the sheet scratch protectors which I find much more clear and non-obtrusive.
I would too Michael. BTW the cute little plastic LCD cover Nikon insists on supplying is a small source of amusement on the Canon side. Now it doesn't take much to amuse Canon shooters, but there you have it (smiley face here but I don't use them because of a high curmudgeon factor)!!!!Quote:
