This was originaly a color HDR processed in Photomatix. With the thought of makeing it a B&W print for Camera Club Competiton , I convereted it to a B&W IR in Color Effects and tweeked it in Viveza. But can't make up my mind if I like it or not. I keep getting the feeling that something is missing , but don't know what.:2eyes2: Interested in any and all thoughts. Thanks to all.
Joe, I remember this one and I like it a lot. The composition is interesting and well framed. I would maybe add a hint of color to the boat or the logs or both to draw the eye to one of them (if that is allowed for the competition). I think the contrast is good but I might tone down some of the vegetation a little. This is one of my favorites of yours, let us know how you make out with it.:S3:
Hey Joe, I like the composition. I think the contrast, likely caused by the IR conversion, is a bit overpowering. I can only guess at this but I am thinking it would be stronger in a straight BW conversion to allow for a broader tonal range with less contrast...just my opinion..

Joe...I like this image but like you feel it is not quite there. I would be interested in seeing what you do with it. .....great suggestions already offered.

I think Nick nailed it on the contrast part. While I like B&W's to have the tonal range.....your conversion lacks some of the niddle tones....so I think he pointed you in the right direction.....just remeber to tweak some of the areas after the normal conversion to highlight the pilings, rope, and boat. I also might evict the trees growing out above the boat. Looking forward to see how you do with the reprocessing and hope the suggested tweaks help.
Hi Joe, good comments above. After studying the image I feel the foreground is a bit too dominating. As Roman stated there seems to be a lack of middle tones there which is making that area become dominant while it's not the center of interest. I also like the idea about removing the trees.
Hi Jay, great suggestions above. I remember this one and I think I prefer the color version a little better, but the suggestions above should bring this one up a notch. Good luck in the competition!
