Since I've had my new 7D I haven't gone back and processed many of the 30D files I took just before. Here's one of them from early May that fits the theme.
I like the staggered positions, with just a bit of merge, matching head angles, just enough detail in the water to keep it interesting.
I could see a sliver more room on the left, but the current crop works well also, with the birds and the reflection of the male working the diagonal of the frame.
Cheers
Randy

Hey Dan, I like the similar swimming poses, and no doubting these are male and female. Lovely pastel blue of the water.

Daniel, symmetrical head positions make this one a good shot. nice water and composition.
can the drake's head use a round of USM?

nice shot, I wish the OOF bird had not merged with teal had not merged with the main subject. subject's head looks a bit soft to me and looks like you had to run some NR on the finer feathers as details are not great... TFS

This one looks a little flat to me, the light looks like it was less than ideal.

Hey Dan,
Nice job getting both the birds in similar poses. Exposure, angle, and BG all excellent as expected. I might add a bit of contrast to the head of the drake.
Well done!

Doesn't really work for me I'm afraid. Light wasn't great and the oof bird really weakens this image IMHO.
