I liked the angles created by the legs, body, head, as well as the colors. My usual fractalius treatment to emphasize edges with thin black lines. Comments and critique welcomed.regards~Bill

I like the composition with the pose and placement of the bird. Love the soft, pastel colors, the subtle water texture behind the bird and the look created with the use of fractalius. I also like the fact that the heron's eye is intently focused on what is in front of him/her instead of the camera... adds mystery. Well done.

It would be very helpful for me if you explained how it is a little different. I generally use a custom made "action" to do these fractalius images and the results depend a great deal on the the base image. My guess would be the difference is due to the amount of detail present in the original photo, which depends primarily on the species (feather structure and coloration), lighting, and distance of camera to subject. If my guess is correct, tomorrow when I'll be in the field again, and I'll see if I can get closer to to the tricolors even if it means I'll have to add canvas in post. Thank you Denise.

Bill, To me it seems a lot more saturated and the effect is less subtle than usual- at least to my eyes. I am not saying it in a bad way. :S3:
Denise; Thank you very much for the quick reply! Very helpful observations indeed. I'll see about alterring my shooting and post processing technique to accentuate edge contrast more (in the base image) and see if that helps, not because the deficiencies in this particular image ruin it or anything like that, but in a future image it could be an improvement IMO.
