My first daffodils broke ground recently so I've been playing around with a few of the images. This one was taken backlit by the late afternoon sun using a southern exposure window. I added two textures over the top in soft light and overlay blend modes and finished with some sharpening using Topaz's InFocus to bring out the cracks and distress a bit more.
I really can't decide if I like this or not...would really appreciate your honest feedback. Thanks!

Jules, I love the crackled effect. The texture and aging looks lovely. I might prefer a square crop if it were mine. Nice work- nothing says spring like Daffs. :S3:

Denise, that's so funny...I started with a rectangle, went to a square and went back to a rectangle...but I don't remember why! I'll take another look...thanks!

Beautiful light, colors and blending of textures, Julie. Maybe a little off the top would be worth investigating but I like this center off-set. It's neat how the untextured center blends so well with the textured areas. :S3:

Jules when I saw the image as a thumbnail..I liked it... maybe a tad too much room at the top, Denise is right a squared crop might do it....I have to admit the effects and texture make it look like it came off the wall in the Sistine Chapel. Very nice post processing...

Julie, I like it! For me, it is the crackled effect that makes it work. Nicely processed.

I originally posted an 8x10 crop and retried the square but it cut a bit too much off the top so settled on an odd shaped 8x9 and got a better result. Thanks everyone for the comments.

Hi Jules, I think the crop in the re-post works really well. Really nice color and textures, very spring-like and cheerful! Good to see you using the InFocus filter, I find it the most difficult Topaz treatment to use and you did well with it.

Wonderful texture work! Just love the ones you used. Bright and cheery. I also like the detailed center of the flower. You remind me of InFocus filter, which I had forgotten about and which you use to such good effect. Must learn to use it. I like your second crop better. Here is another idea--I rotated CCW and flipped it horizontally and cropped some. Just another view.

Julie,
Your second crop or Anita's crop both work for me. Excellent use of filters. I agree with Paul... it looks like it came off the wall in the Sistine Chapel. Well done.
