Steve Bein's fractalius rattler had me thinking "why have I not tried this on my snakes images?" Snakes are by far my most favorite critters, but they are hard to photograph. A few years ago while in Ontario's Bruce Peninsula National Park I encountered this Smooth Green Snake sunning on the trail. I tried to get lower than the snake's belly to ensure a pleasing background. The tongue flick was a bonus.
Love it! The colors, comp and fract all perfect!!:S3:

I love the green snake, the fract is perfect and the tongue was good timing and really adds a lot of interest.
I have a good friend, a retired biology professor at our local university who is a herpetologist. He photographs snakes whenever he finds one, plus lizards and frogs. He has a point and shoot for one-handed macro shots while holding the snake in the other hand. Once he got bitten on the nose! Non-poisonous of course. He was bitten last summer on the arm doing the same thing.
