My preference is for BIF shots, but being from the UK, I cannot get enough of the fantastic birds when I get the chance. This bird was taking a break, having been constantly nagged by its mate from the nest [:w3] and was not in the least bothered by my attention. This was a full-frame shot, 1D mk3, 600mm + 1.4x tele, ISO 400, 1/800sec @ f9, dist to subject 25.7metres, +0.3EV, small BKG NR. The background was lighter than I would have wished for, but it was a cloudy day, although the shot was taken as the clouds lifted slightly to reveal a blue cast, making it better than pure white or grey. This is my best portrait shot of an Osprey to date and I was very pleased to nail it.
Comments always welcomed.

Tack sharp Richard, and I like the look back pose. If anything, I would move him to the left in the frame and add more space on the right.

Thanks Stuart.
Since it was a full-framer, I have had to add some RHS and cropped the left as suggested.

Excellent detail and clarity. The first frame was OK by me but I don't always get my own framing right.

I like the repost beause it takes the bird off center -- very nice shot -- I like the talons and the detail in both the whites and darker feathers. Very dramatic pose

The re-crop is a great finishing touch to a beautiful image. Might tone it down just a hair , but that is a matter of taste. Love it.

Neat pose, good details. The repost is a much stronger composition.
