Inspired by Janet's Barred Owl image, I thought I would dig up one of my old Barred Owl images and try a fractalius on it. As I set out for a walk one day at the family cottage near Parry Sound Ontario this owl was sitting on a tall stump on our septic bed. I grabbed my camera for a quick handheld as I was sure it would fly away soon. Shutter speed was too low, the owl waited patiently as I set-up tripod for this capture and remained still so I locked-up the mirror and shot this image.
Fractalius on separate layer reduced to 50% and reduced the effect on the owl further with the eraser tool.
Might fine, Andrew! I really like this type of frac BG and you have softened the effect beautifully on the owl. The Pose/Perch is cool and the subtle grey repeated in the BG helps tie the owl to its surroundings. Great job. :S3:

Nice owl Andrew! I am fascinated by these birds and always feel fortunate to get a shot of one. Nice fract job on the whole scene and especially the masked back owl. For my eye, I would tone down the background just a little - probably do it with saturation. Very nice look.

You're getting good at this stuff! I like the stained glass effect of the bacground as well. I'm sure it is personal preference, but the line thickness outlining the owl seems too thick. Then again its your image and your call (obvioiusly). regards~Bill
