Inspired by Denise's new guide, I decided to give a first try to something Out of the Box. This is a Topaz Simplify watercolor, very mildly applied, as I am just getting my feet wet. I am looking forward to reading Denise's Filter Guide, since I have so much to learn.
Comments/suggestions please.

Michael, I'm assuming these were from your trip to Japan? You nailed this one!! Excellent use of the filter. I love the poses and I think you have just the right amount of detail in the heads. I'm debating a sliver off the bottom. Very appealing, and thank you for the plug and the purchase!:S3:

Hi Michael and welcome to OOTB! You got a very nice look here and the only thing I would mention is the intersecting line of the bg. It's not too distracting in this image, because of the implied upward motion of the birds, but having a unified bg would make this nice image even better. Looking forward to seeing more posts from you! :c3:
Wow, this is great. I love the children's book/illustrated look. As presented, I would crop a bunch off the bottom. When you go back to Japan, raise the lens a bit ! :)

Thanks for all the helpful comments. The main issue seems to be a lot of white space at the bottom. In reality the cranes are leaping fairly high off the snow-covered ground, and, in the original, realistic photo, there is more detail in the ground and more of the sense of leaping. I didn't realize when I did this version that you can no longer tell where the cranes are relative to the ground.
Rather than crop out the bottom, I tried a small rotation which minimizes the snow and maybe gives more of a sense of leaping. It does leave the tree line at an angle, but maybe better over all?
Michael, I think this does look better. A small clean up in the ULC.

Michael, a beautiful illustrated effect-it looks somewhat like a woodblock print to me. Welcome to OOTB:S3: I hope you post lots more.
