Gina & I stayed overnight at Madera Kubo B&B Madera Canyon AZ tuesday and part of Wednesday looking particularly for the Elegant Trogon feeding on the Pyrocanther berries. After waiting for over 3 hours it appeared once and I did take a couple of photos before it flew the coop, not a very good capture, but you can tell what it is. Gina took one of the bests photos of it last year that I will post tomorrow.
At 5500' it was rather chilly however, the cabins have wood burning stove that kept us warm inside. Interesting place where we had 15 wild turkey's come up the hill and roosted in the Sycamore trees beside our cabin, and across the street on the main patio, brrrrr, we had the Acorn & Arizona Woodpeckers, Magnificent Hummingbird, Pine Siskin's, Bridled Titmouse, White breasted Nut Hatch, Lesser Goldfinches and Mexican Jays in rather dark light where we had to use flash.
Visit their websites where we put up photos of the cabins. Cora & Richard wonderful hosts who treat their guests like royalty. Also home of the Flame colored Tanager around the end of March or April at Kubo only in the heart of one of the best birding spots in America
Keep smiling
Gus & Gina

Gus, I was wondering if you'd seen one! I like the image - it looks like primitive art (and I mean that in a good way). And thanks for the link to the B&B - it looks wonderful:S3:

Nice painting-like feel with rich colours !
Liked the way the greens encompass the bird.

Nice capture, Gus. I like the painting feel and the clear eye. I'd prefer it if the bird was closer to eye level with fewer branches, but I think you did well under the circumstances.

Nice painterly effect, Gus. Interesting bird and maybe you can share the original...

Like the effect of this Gus.
Might be better with a slightly wider border area, or none. but the image area is very nicely done.

Hi Gus, I think the presentation is just fine and I agree about the "primitive" style. This fits the bill nicely, even if you didn't get the best capture of the bird. I would be overjoyed to even see this bird!
I've been to that area and it is indeed beautiful. You also have Bisbee and Tombstone on the other side of the mountains! I'm definitely going to check out the B&B, great spot. How cool to live as close as you do!
