I was out shooting at a local lake last night as the sun was going down and the half frozen lake took on this incredible blue and gold color. I saw this big block of ice floating around out towards the middle of the lake so I put on the 400mm and made a few images.
This is pretty much right out of camera with a slight levels adjustment and a ton of cloning to get all the goose poop out!

Jules, I can easily imagine a big furry polar bear chillin' on this slab of ice! I love the colors and textures of the water, both liquid and solid.

Very neat Julie, that slab of ice looks suspended in air.

Thank you, Kerry...that's what attracted me to it at first. Jack, the frozen piece really did look suspended...and the triangular shape against the rectangular runs of water really came out with a no brainer comp.

I like the golden colors very much. That sure is a big piece of ice! I might be tempted to crop the ripples off the top if it were mine.:)

Hi Julie, great colors, love the look. I agree with Denise on the ripples at the top, without them it draws more attention to the slab and the tree trunks. Nice work!:)

Hi Julie, perfect shape to the ice, and looks like a pane of broken glass. Lovely complimentary colours, and well spotted and captured.

I tried your crop Denise and I do like it as well. Decisions, decisions... :)

The shape of the ice slab is very interesting and reminds me of the monolith from 2001 a Space Odyssey. I really like the abstract nature of composition here with layers of golden tones and shimmering water. Very thoughtfully done.
