I was scanning an old corn field looking for turkey, when this burst of Grackles and Red-winged Blackbirds began flying around.
It was such a cool sight. They flew back and forth several times before heading out.
I darkened my image and over sharpened, then reduced the saturation of all colors.
Enjoy and Happy New Year.

Janet, I like the whirlwind look to this and the dark grey sky. I might evict the guy at the top of the page if it were mine. Nicely done.:)
Happy New Year to you also.

Very nice technique, Janet! Desaturating it and darkening it a bit really adds drama to the image! There are a few birds that are not much more than a dot on the horizon - no real shape to them - I'd be tempted to clone those out and leave all the visible birds in the mix.

Well done Janet! I like the desaturated and dark look. A agree on removing a few of the birds without much detail.

Janet, this one really brings back memories for me. I grew up in Indiana with wintry cornfields and noisy flocks of blackbirds. I like the look you got with your adjustments.
Very nice work on your web site, I am a Zenfolio guy myself. I really like your layout. I absolutely love that loon image! Chiaroscuro!!

Nice mood, Janet. The dark, desaturated look really fits the image. Agree with the suggestions already made.

Thank you all for the comments, I see what you mean about the bird at the top and the other ones that are like specks. I'm going to play around with this in photoshop and see what I come up with. I didn't even notice the bird at the top when I posted this. Guess i'm just tired from having kids home from college and Christmas.
Have a good one!
Thanks Again,
Janet

This is very cool and very, very eerie!
I'm a very avid reader of fantasy stories, and this sends my imagination on a whirl.
Thanks for sharing, and a very happy new year to you!
