What are your suggestions? I think it looks too coarse yet.

Looking good, Cheryl! :) I like where you have the light rays positioned. I would suggest maybe applying radial blur a second time to make the rays a bit longer and more obvious. Fiddling around with the Threshold adjustment during the creation of the light rays would help with that too. I also think they could stand to be a little brighter, more dramatic.
Nice job! The colors look good and I agree about the positioning of the rays - just right. I like how you were able to keep the red leaves on the vine. That's not poison ivy, is it? Eeek. :O)
Cheryl, Looks great. Christopher makes some good suggestions. Looking forward to more.
Cheryl, I think you did a great job with it and as you say - more practice will make the next ones even better. I really like the look you got and I think an improvement would be to make the natural elements look softer, to match the look of the light rays.
I took the liberty of making a couple of adjustments, hope you like... I lowered the saturation of the greens and reds, made a slight levels adjustment, then took the image into Nik CFX Pro and gave it a "glamour glow" treatment. I love the image and hope you like the added mood. Good job!
Cheryl;
I like what you created, the sun rays filtering through the trees, super, especially for your first try. Kerry's redo spectacular, a different mood, I like them both.
Great tutorial, Christopher, your students doing great work.
Keep smiling, folks :)
