added a blur layer and vignetting.
(there has got to be a better way of adding a vignette than how I did it. How do all of you add a vignette???)
How can I improve this image adjustment?
Any suggestions on moving that center tree? (It is cut down now, so no chance to reshoot.)
Next step, after I get this stage right, is to learn how to do Christopher's light rays.
Excellent work with the blur overlay, Cheryl! Very nice mood to this. I like the patches of red and the vines on the tree trunks. The link to the tutorial I use for creating light rays is in the Share Your Workflow sticky.
There are lots of ways to create a vignette, and no one way is necessarily best. Here's an outline of how I usually do it.
1. Select>All
2. Select>Modify>Border - Any width will work
3. Select>Modify>Expand - Adjust the size to however large you want the vignette to be.
4. Select>Feather - This step determines how soft your vignette will be. I usually select a radius between 100px-250px.
5. Repeat step 4 if you want to make the vignette even softer.
6. Use Select>Modify>Expand or Select>Modify>Contract to further adjust the size of the vignette if needed.
7. Create a new color fill layer selecting black as the color and adjust the opacity as desired.
Cheryl, I think once you add the rays this will be great. I selected the main tree and some of the area around it w/ the marquee tool then put it on it's own layer and then moved it w/ the move tool. Next I used a layer mask to clean up the edges. I hope this is what you had in mind?:) You could spend some time cleaning up the repeats.
Very nice start to this one, Cheryl - I like it as is but would love to see you try to replicate Christopher's image as the colors in this are beautiful.
I have a vignette action that I got online that I use but an easy way is to create a layer, use the marquee tool to run 1/2" from the center all the way around the frame. Invert the selection so it's only the outside area and then choose a color for the fill. Reduce opacity until you have what you like.
You can also do an entire layer of the color you want and then mask off everything but the edges - kind of the exact opposite of the first option I gave!
